I didn’t set out to build a cross-border mortgage business.

I was trying to build a life that worked for my own family.

What started with traditional mortgage financing in Canada eventually became something much bigger — helping people understand how financing can work when their plans stretch beyond one country.

Today, I help clients navigate mortgages in Canada, financing options for homes in Mexico, and cross-border strategies that may involve equity in Canada or the U.S.

Family vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico, where Anna’s family journey toward building a life in Mexico began.

It started with a vacation.

We went to Cabo for a family vacation, visited family in Los Barriles and fell in love with the East Cape.

Three weeks later, we were back in Baja California Sur looking at properties and asking ourselves a much bigger question: Could we actually build a life here?

We chose La Paz — for the services, the opportunities for Karlee, and because it felt like a place our life could grow with us. Not long after, we bought a lot over video chat and started building our home.

Suddenly, the dream wasn't someday anymore.

If we wanted a life that could exist in both Canada and Mexico, I needed work that could exist in both places too.

I needed a career that could move with us.

I could have turned my years in HSE into a consulting business. It was the obvious choice.

But if I was going to change my life, I wanted to build something I would actually love doing — something that let me help people and could move with our family.

Little-known fact: I got my real estate license at 19 and later worked as a real estate conveyancer. Real estate had always held a place for me.

Mortgage brokering brought me back to it, but in a way that didn't require me to be in one place to help someone.

It felt like I'd found my way back to something I hadn't realized I'd missed.

Then people started asking me a question I couldn't answer.

As I started talking about using Canadian home equity to help purchase property in Mexico, another question kept coming up:

“But can I actually get a mortgage in Mexico?”

I didn't know.

So I started looking. I Googled. I called lenders. I asked questions. And I discovered something many of the people calling me had already experienced:

Getting a straight answer wasn't always easy.

I didn't want to simply tell people I couldn't help. I wanted to understand what options actually existed.

Eventually, one phone call led me to Mexico Mortgage Hub. John and I flew to Vancouver to meet the team before I joined — because if I was going to help someone finance a dream as big as owning a home in Mexico, I wanted to know the people and solutions behind it.

I came home knowing I'd found another piece of the puzzle.

Then I found another border.

Mexico financing solved one problem. Then my U.S. clients showed me another.

Some wanted to use equity from their U.S. homes to help purchase in Mexico — and once again, I couldn't help with the whole picture.

So I went looking for what felt like a unicorn: a brokerage where Canada, Mexico and access to U.S. lending expertise could exist under the same roof.

Eventually, I found Indi Mortgage and OIM Mortgage Group.

Today, I can help with Canadian mortgages and equity strategies, financing options for homes in Mexico, and connect clients with an experienced U.S. lending team when their plans involve financing south of the Canadian border.

Because real life doesn't always fit neatly inside one country.

Your plans don't have to fit neatly inside borders.

I've been the person trying to figure out how to turn a life in Mexico from an idea into something our family could actually build.

I've asked the questions. Hit the roadblocks. Made the phone calls. And learned that sometimes the answer isn't obvious — but that doesn't mean there isn't one.

That's what I bring to my clients now.

You don't need to know which mortgage you need or exactly how you're going to make your plans work before you call me.

You just need to know what you're trying to build.

We'll start there.
